Croydon Advertiser 021009 001We’re in the Paper!!

Both Mens and Ladies 1’s had reports on their first 2009/10 Season League games published in the Croydon Advertiser on Friday 2nd October. We have a keen news reporter there who wants us to send in match reports, so keep them coming!

I’m extremely frustrated at not being able to play at the moment. I miss my Hockey. I’m working hard to be fit (well, as fit as I was, which wasn’t very) and strong again by January and look forward to getting back on the pitch.

My sympathies go out to all the other players who are injured at the moment. Get well soon you lot, we need you.

All the best for a cracking season,

Foz

Summer 2009 and I’m in my 3rd year!

Hi all,

Thank you all for the overwhelming support you gave me at the AGM. I offered to stand down because of my injury but you want me to carry on into my 3rd year as Club Captain. Either I must be doing something right or no-one else is daft enough to do this job! Either way, I will try my hardest to make my 3rd year a good one for the whole club.

CONGRATULATIONS to our Men’s 1’s Vice-captain Phil Hoare who is now married to the lovely Esther. They held a fantastic party with many familiar faces from Croydon Hockey Club, both old and new!

We’re still attracting new players and I’m really hoping the the junior section will grow quickly next season. If you’ve got any ideas or just want to find out more about the club please get in touch.

Summer hockey is well under way and players from all our teams are getting involved. If you’d like to keep your fitness & skills in good shape for next season, or just want to play hockey for fun, please let me know and I’ll find you a slot in our summer games.

Finally, we’ve got lots of new faces on the committee this season and I’m looking forward to working with them. If you’ve got any suggetions about how we can be an even better club, both on and off the pitch, please let your team captains know.

Cheers!

2008/09 season begins and Foz celebrates a milestone

September 29, 2008 by croydoncaptain

Hellooooo everyone,

and a warm welcome to all of our new players this season (there seems to be a lot of you!).

We’re off! The new league season has started and I have to use this opportunity to tell you about reaching a personal milestone on Saturday. Over the last few seasons I have played and scored goals for the mens 2nd, 3rd and 4th teams and the mixed team. I have never scored or even played for the mens 1’s…………….until now.

Yes you’ve guessed it. I turned up early at the Harris academy for the 3’s game in the hope of watching some of the 1st team game, to be greeted with shouts from the on pitch skipper Phil. They only had 10 men and could I help out. Well of course! They were only 1 goal down against Richmond. So I charged on at Centre forward and scored the equaliser!!! We went on to dominate the half and score the all important winner for a 3-2 Victory.

I am now considering waxing my legs, trimming my eyebrows and having a very close shave so I can play and score for every team in the club! What do you think Ladies?

Summer Hockey

July 23, 2008 by croydoncaptain

This has got to be one of our best summers of Hockey. Personal highlight (so far) for the Men was the 5-0 win against Cheaters at PW’s. For the Vets there have been 2 excellent games against Kenley. We gave them a 13-1 thrashing first time around but they put out a stronger team at our second meeting. They were 2-0 up at half time but, thanks to our Captain Martin Burke leading by example with a blistering goal, we came back to win 3-2. Great game.

This is also a great summer for recruitment, with a large number of new players getting in touch and lots more coming to our open day on the 6th September. I hope to see all you new guys and girls on the pitch or in the clubhouse soon!

It feels like ages since the Dinner dance and I’m missing you all. I’d love to hear from you all about your Summer games results, highlights and stories. Let me know how it’s going in the world of Croydon Hockey !

Finally, We are now listed on ‘ALL ABOUT CROYDON’. go to allabout-croydon.co.uk and see if you can find us! Cheers,

The Dinner Dance

THE DINNER DANCE. SATURDAY 19th APRIL

WOW, That was a blast! Yes I did forget to toast the Queen, but I’m sure she’ll forgive me, I just won’t get that knighthood now.

Sorry about the bad jokes in my speach but at least the awards section worked much better this year ( i hope you agree). Congratulations to all of our award winners and THANK YOU to everyone in the club for voting me ‘Club Person of the Year’. It really was a surprise as I’ve enjoyed everything I’ve done for the club and it hasn’t felt like loads of work at all. Looking back I guess we have achieved a lot this season.

My band really enjoyed entertaining you on the evening. Thanks for all the good feedback. Yes I did manage to play the whole of ‘Reach for the Stars’ with the mini Hockey Sticks!!

Did anyone get any good photos? if so, send them in to Duncan so we can put them on the website.

Cheers all,

Foz

Foz’s first blog!

March 22, 2008 by croydoncaptain

Hellooooo,

Hi everyone. I’ve never blogged before so this’ll be a new experience! I must say I’m very excited about entertaining you all at the Dinner Dance. For more info on the band please visit www.coverstory.co.uk.

I’ve really enjoyed my first year as Club Captain. The energy level has risen since our successful move to Wallington and the club has had a great season across all the teams. Recruitment of new talent has also been fantastic, with over 28 new players coming into the club during the course of the season. If you’re one of those newbees, stick around, next season will be even better!

I’m also looking forward to the AGM as I have an exciting proposal for you all. You’ll have to wait for the full details, but basically I’ve been considering starting up a Junior section in order to grow the club and hopefully bring a stream of younger players into our existing teams. If the club agrees this is a good idea I’m gonna need volunteers, in others words YOU LOT, to step forward and offer a little of your time and support in getting this idea off the ground.

Let me know what you think, if you’re interested, if you think it’s a daft idea, whatever comes to mind. Also, if you have any other ideas about how we can improve the club then let me know.

Happy Easter and I hope to speak to you soon!
